Regrouting in Stone
Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have grout washed out of a shower and grout in corners that has cracked, we can put it right, on bathroom floors, tiled floors and wet rooms alike.
For a small place like Stone, regrouting is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.
A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

What affects the cost of regrouting
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Whether the work is at height
- Any working-time requirements on site
Combining jobs into one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.
Asking for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Where the job is, and your postcode
Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll explain what’s involved and give you a clear quote.
Should I try it myself first?
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
The process
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. In a small place like Stone, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice
Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.
Kitchen splashbacks
Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.
Questions from Stone
Do you cover Stone for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Stone is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Will you come out to Stone?
Yes. Stone is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.
Where are you based?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Stone and the rest of Buckinghamshire.
Do I need to be at home?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, we are fully insured for every job we do.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, it won’t last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.
Stone homes and their sealant
Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
If you let a flat or house near Aylesbury Vale Parkway station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. If you live in an older home near Church of St John the Baptist, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Signs you need regrouting in Stone
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
- Shower grout that has worn away
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Stone Church of England Combined School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
Before you book anyone

- What product goes in the joint
