Bathroom resealing in G51: how it works
The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on shower trays & enclosures, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and leaking joints on a shower screen.
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, including the tidy-up.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.
What you’ll pay
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Why choose Mr Mastic

- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- Fully insured

Bathrooms and kitchens across G51
From Renfrew, Partick and Thornwood to its smaller places, homes across G51 have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.
The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, but outside joints take plenty of weather everywhere. Sealants for jobs in G51 are chosen with that in mind.
Moorepark: Rented homes near Dumbreck station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. In and around Moorepark, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
Surface by surface
Kitchen worktops & upstands
The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop.
Shower trays & enclosures
The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.
Looking after it afterwards
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Move toiletries away from the joint
- Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
- Give the silicone its full cure time
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.
There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.
DIY versus a professional finish
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Working hours on commercial sites
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- The product the joint needs
- How many areas need sealing
What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first.
Helping us quote
To make quoting easier, please include:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- If someone has resealed it before
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Where the job is, and your postcode
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we will take it from there.
What we’re called out for in G51
Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Steamy rooms that do not dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone generally will not clean off.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
- Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
G51 questions
Can I do it myself?
You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?
Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.
Do you come to G51?
We do. Our applicators work in G51.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured for every job we do.
Is white the only colour available?
We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.
Can you just seal over the old silicone?
No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
