How bathroom resealing works in G5

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. A full bath sits slightly lower than an empty one, so the new joint is not pulled apart the first time it’s used. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and the jobs we see most are shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal.

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The work normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, depending on the size of the job.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Where we work in G5

From Laurieston, Strathbungo and Hutchesontown to its smaller places, homes across G5 have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

Homes in Scotland come with their own details: sash and case windows, harled walls and, in the towns and cities, tenement flats. G5 is part of the area we cover across Scotland.

Laurieston: In and around Laurieston, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Letting a property close to Glasgow Central station? Then mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The size of the job
  • Whether the work is at height

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Roughly how big the job is

If you’re in G5 and need bathroom resealing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you’ll get a clear quote before work begins.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Wet rooms rely on sound joints at floor and wall junctions. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, and our work is on the visible joints only.

Baths

The long joint down the side of a bath is where most leaks start, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone.

Why act early?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts.

Comparing quotes

  • How long to leave it before use
  • Whether VAT is included
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Which colour the sealant will be

Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

What sealant work cannot fix

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)

FAQs for G5

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Do the sealants smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What should I tell you?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

After around 24 hours in most cases. You will get the exact cure time before we leave.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we are fully insured.
