Bathroom resealing in Cessnock
Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. If you have water escaping at the shower enclosure and water getting behind the kitchen upstand, we can put it right.
Cessnock is in one of Scotland’s four big cities, where many tenement bathrooms were fitted into rooms that weren’t built for them. Rooms like that are often small and slow to dry out, and steam with nowhere to go is what turns sealant black and grout grey.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
If a wet room leaks, the cause may be the tanking or the drain rather than the joints. We reseal the joints and will tell you if the water seems to be coming from somewhere else.
Sinks & splashbacks
Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
Honest limits
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Cessnock
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Sandstone tenements are a big part of Glasgow’s housing, where most bathrooms sit above another flat.
If you let a flat or house near Exhibition Centre station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Common questions in Cessnock
Do you work in hotels near Cessnock?
Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Exhibition Centre station?
Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Every job carries our one-year guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?
After around 24 hours in most cases. We will tell you the cure time for the product we used.
What should I tell you?
A short description and the location, with pictures by email if possible. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.
Is white the only colour available?
White and clear are the most common choices, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Tell us what you’d like when you get in touch.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No, never. Sealing over the top looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts, because silicone doesn’t bond to silicone. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.
Do you cover Cessnock?
Yes. We’re based in Crawley and work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can I do it myself?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
The process
A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Inside a flat in Cessnock, the job is planned with you; outside, shared parts may need the factor or other owners involved. It helps to know which it is when you get in touch.
- Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
- We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.
How to prepare
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- Mention any parking rules near the property

What we are called out for in Cessnock
Baths and trays move. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
If you look after a building such as Lorne Street Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Leave it or put it right?
Sorting it now is quick: it takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Left until water gets through, the job can grow to lifting panels, drying out and decorating. Scottish rain finds any gap around a frame or wall joint, and in Cessnock, damp can spread through stone and plaster before anyone sees it.
The cost depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.
