Mastic and sealant across G11

Our bathroom resealing service in G11

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. Typical jobs include water getting behind the kitchen upstand and black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off, across shower trays & enclosures, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units.

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work normally takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

What affects the price in G11

The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Bathrooms and kitchens across G11

From Dowanhill, Partickhill and Yorkhill to its smaller places, homes across G11 have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

Our work covers the whole of Scotland, G11 included. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast.

Partickhill: For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hyndland Secondary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Partick station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Should I try it myself first?

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in G11

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The type of sealant required
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether the work is at height

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • How we’d reach the joints

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you’re ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting

Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, as they hold water against it. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use helps the joint dry.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

Common problems we fix in G11

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally will not clean off.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Black spots spreading through the bead
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Water getting behind the bath panel

FAQs for G11

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

Allow a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. You will know how long to expect before we start.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured for every job we do.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels in G11.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

Do you come to G11?
