About gutter sealing in East Sussex
Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. They’re sealed in a matching colour where one is available. Common call-outs are for old sealant on roofline trims that has split and fascia boards with gaps between them, on soffit joints, gutter joints and gutter end caps.
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including the tidy-up.
- We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
- The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
- The joint is dried before sealing.
- A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
- We check the run and clear debris near the joints.
What affects the price in East Sussex
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

You will also find The King's Arms Public House (0.9 miles south-east), WMG Academy for Young Engineers (1.5 miles south-west) and Ratton School (1.1 miles west). The closest station to Eastbourne is Hampden Park station, roughly 0.7 miles north-west. Nearby you will also find Pevensey Castle (3 miles north-east) and Royal Sussex Regimental Museum (1 mile south-east). Not far away are Combe Hill.
Outside joints across East Sussex
From Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea to its smaller places, buildings across East Sussex have walls, gutters and rooflines of every age. All of them move, so they need a flexible sealant at the right depth.
London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across East Sussex is planned around the weather. Coastal guest houses and holiday lets in East Sussex can see heavy use in busy months, so their sealant and grout wear faster than most, and the weather is hard on the outside too.
Eastbourne: In the older streets around St Andrew, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Schools such as Stafford Junior School are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.
Keeping the joints in good condition
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Check the gutters during heavy rain
- Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
- Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
- Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
Have a look at the gutter during a downpour. It’s the easiest time to see a leak.
Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards and the wall below.
Should I try it myself first?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.
Why it fails
Gutter joints rely on seals that age. Temperature changes make gutters move, and old seals crack or slip.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter
- Fascia boards with gaps between them
- Water running down the wall below the gutter
- Drips from gutter joints and end caps
For landlords and businesses
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote.
Why deal with it now?
Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint a reseal is all it needs. If it’s broken or sagging, a gutter installer needs to look.

FAQs for East Sussex
Can you fit new guttering?
Replacement isn’t our trade. If a gutter is broken or sagging, we will tell you so you can call the right trade.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
How long does gutter sealing take?
That depends on the amount of work, but most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. We will give you a better idea when we quote.
Where do you work from?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover East Sussex.
