Gutter sealing in Fairlight
We seal leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascia and soffit joints plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work rather than new guttering. We work on soffit joints, gutter end caps and garage door frames, and people most often call us about garage door frames letting rain in and water dripping where gutter sections meet.
Around Fairlight, older buildings can be stone, brick or timber-framed, many with extensions added later. The joints where those materials meet are the weak points.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

How the visit works
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Somewhere like Fairlight needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- The joints are dried.
- The sealant is applied and finished.
- We check our work before we leave.
Before we arrive
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Questions from Fairlight
Will you come out to Fairlight?
Yes. Fairlight is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does the coastal weather in Fairlight affect outside sealant?
Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.
Do I have to be there?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.
Can a leaking gutter joint be sealed?
Often, yes. Cleaning, drying and resealing the joint generally works. If the section is split or warped, it needs replacing.
Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?
Not for long. The joint will pull apart, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.
Will there be a smell?
Some sealants have a smell while they cure, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.
Is gutter cleaning part of the job?
We clean the joints we are sealing and clear debris we find nearby. Cleaning the whole run is a different job.
Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?
Yes, it’s a common job. The gaps are cleaned and sealed neatly with a suitable exterior sealant.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Keep ladders off the guttering
- Keep downpipes clear
- Get leaks sealed before the wet months
- Keep the gutters clear of debris
If a gutter starts to sag, get the brackets looked at. If it drops, the joints will open.
Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards.
How the job changes by surface
Gutter end caps
End caps are resealed where they meet the gutter, after cleaning and drying.
Gutter joints
A dripping joint does not always mean a failed gutter. Sealing the joint often stops it.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
What gutter sealing looks like in Fairlight
Fairlight is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Hastings Academy, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s. If you let a flat or house near Three Oaks station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of St Andrew, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Leave it or put it right?
Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. Older cottages and farmhouses around Fairlight can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will talk you through it.
