Gutter sealing in Upper Horsebridge

It’s easy to live with a dripping gutter joint, but each shower sends water to the same place. Resealing it is a small job while the gutter is still sound. Common call-outs are for wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint and quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last, across garage door frames, roofline trims and uPVC fascias.

Homes around Upper Horsebridge range from older cottages to newer houses, with walls and rooflines of every type. Older gutters and trims need their joints resealed; newer brick and render need their movement joints kept sound.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What happens if it’s left?

Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint a reseal is all it needs. If it has failed, we will tell you. In an older home around Upper Horsebridge, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first.

Upper Horsebridge: your questions answered

Is Upper Horsebridge within the area you cover?

Yes. Upper Horsebridge is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Upper Horsebridge in your area for gutter sealing?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Upper Horsebridge is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Will it make a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Do you replace gutters or fascias?

That is not something we do. We seal joints and replacement is a job for an installer.

What affects the quote in Upper Horsebridge

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The number and length of the joints
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Where the property is
  • The rough size of the job

Want a quote for gutter sealing? Please ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before work begins.

The process

The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we are treating. The job usually takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In a smaller place like Upper Horsebridge, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter isn’t cracked or sagging.
  2. Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant will not bond to a wet surface.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Getting a quote

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

Related advice

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Make sure downpipes are not blocked
  • Don’t leave a sagging gutter

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.

Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall, which can lead to staining and damp.

What we’re called out for in Upper Horsebridge

Gutter joints depend on seals that wear out. Sun and cold make the gutter expand and contract and that movement opens up tired joints.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint
  • Water dripping where gutter sections meet
  • Trim joints where the sealant has failed
  • Damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter

Managing a site like Hawkes Farm Academy? Then movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.
