What affects the cost of gutter sealing

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • If someone has resealed it before

Getting a quote is simple: let us know what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

How we handle gutter sealing in Crumbles

Many dripping gutters are just a failed joint or end cap. We clean out the joint, dry it and reseal it using a gutter sealant. If the gutter itself has failed, we say so. Typical jobs include cracked sealant along roofline trims and wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint, across soffit joints, uPVC fascias and gutter end caps.

Around Crumbles, older buildings can be stone, brick or timber-framed, many with extensions added later. Where one material meets another is where water generally gets in.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Crumbles

Is Crumbles within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Pevensey & Westham station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we will send you a clear quote.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.

What guarantee comes with the job?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We will tell you which colours the right product comes in and agree one before any work starts.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured.

Different surfaces, different methods

Soffit joints

Soffit board joints can separate over time. We seal them to close the gaps.

Garage door frames

Resealing a garage door frame keeps rain and draughts out.

Honest limits

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe
  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Roofline trims
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps
  • Soffit joints
  • Garage door frames

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Sort out a dripping joint early
  • Watch for drips in a downpour
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Look along the fascias for open joints

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. A small split is quicker to put right.

Early sealing limits how much water hits the wall. We will let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.

What gutter sealing looks like in Crumbles

Crumbles is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

In the older streets around St. Richard, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Managing a site like St Catherine's College? Then larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing.

Do you need gutter sealing in Crumbles?

Gutter joints depend on seals that wear out. Sun and cold make the gutter expand and contract and that movement opens up tired joints.

Look out for these signs:

  • Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
  • Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
  • Damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter
  • Stop ends leaking at the end of a run

If you let a flat or house near Pevensey & Westham station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

What your quote should include

  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
  • Are they insured?
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How much experience the applicator has

Our hiring checklist

How it works

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work generally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. For a village or hamlet like Crumbles, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Move anything stored near the joints
