Gutter sealing in Peacehaven

Gutter sealing in Peacehaven, done properly

Garage door frames let rain in when the sealant around them fails. We cut out the old sealant and reseal the frame with an exterior sealant. We work on uPVC fascias, gutter joints and roofline trims, and the jobs we see most are water running down the wall below the gutter and leaking gutter joints and stop ends.

Outbuildings, garages and conservatories around homes in places like Peacehaven add more joints to look after. Leaks generally start at a gutter end, a garage door frame or where an extension meets the house.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Gutter end caps

A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a small job to fix.

uPVC fascias

Fascia board joints can open up. We seal them neatly with a matching sealant where possible.

What gutter sealing looks like in Peacehaven

Peacehaven is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

For landlords with property near Newhaven Town station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. Homes close to Ascension Church include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

Common questions in Peacehaven

Do you work for landlords with property near Newhaven Town station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.

Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Peacehaven?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

Is gutter cleaning part of the job?

The joints we seal are cleaned out and clear debris we find nearby. A full gutter clean is a separate service.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

Not for long. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured for every job we do.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

What we do, step by step

At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours, depending on how much there is to do. In a smaller place like Peacehaven, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we’re there.

Before we arrive

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

What sealant work cannot fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Boards that have decayed or split
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • uPVC fascias
  • Garage door frames
  • Roofline trims
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Look at the gutters while it’s raining
  • Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.

Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall and that can cause damp inside.

What we’re called out for in Peacehaven

End caps get knocked or pushed by water. Once the seal behind them fails, they drip.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Fascia boards with gaps between them
  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • Dripping gutter ends
  • Rain getting in around a garage door

If you look after a building such as Peacehaven Community School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.
