Gutter sealing in Oxfordshire: how it works
It’s easy to live with a dripping gutter joint, but the water lands on the same spot every time it rains. Resealing it is a small job if the gutter is otherwise in good order. We work on gutter end caps, uPVC fascias and gutter joints, and the jobs we see most are damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter and rain getting in around a garage door.
Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours.
- We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- We make sure everything is dry.
- We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
- The joints are checked once sealed.
What you’ll pay
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.
What you get with us
- Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows
- Homes, businesses and hotels

Walls and rooflines across Oxfordshire
In Oxfordshire, gutter sealing work takes in houses, flats and commercial buildings, from Oxford, Banbury and Didcot to the quieter places in between. Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so the work is planned around the weather.
The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, but outdoor sealant still needs a dry day and clean surfaces, so outside work in Oxfordshire is planned around the forecast.
Oxford: In the older streets around St Clement's Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. For landlords with property near Oxford station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
What happens if it’s left?
You do not need to replace a garage door because rain gets in round the frame. Sealing the frame generally stops it.
What your quote should include
- What preparation is included
- What product goes in the joint
- Which colour the sealant will be
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
Quotes for gutter sealing in Oxfordshire
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Working hours on commercial sites
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The product the joint needs
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- Where the property is
- Whether it has been sealed before
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you’re ready, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.
When it is not the sealant
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Blocked downpipes
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Brackets that have snapped or loosened
Different surfaces, different methods
Soffit joints
Soffits sit under the eaves, where joints can open up. They’re sealed to tidy the line.
uPVC fascias
Open fascia joints look untidy and can let water in. Sealing them closes the gap.
Oxfordshire: your questions answered
Can I do it myself?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
Will it make a mess?
Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
Do you work in Oxfordshire?
Yes, we do. Oxfordshire is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else.
How long before the joint can be used?
Cure times vary by product and the conditions. Before we leave, we will tell you the cure time.
Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?
It won’t last. The movement opens the joint again so the gutter has to be refixed first.
What information do you need?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.
Can you match the sealant colour?
We will suggest a colour to suit the surroundings, from white and clear to greys and other shades. The product needed can limit the range.
