How we handle gutter sealing in Sprig's Alley

We seal leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascia and soffit joints plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints, not replacing the gutter. We work on soffit joints, uPVC fascias and roofline trims, and common reasons people get in touch are quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last and fascia boards with gaps between them.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Sprig's Alley is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to every wall, plus any garages or outbuildings.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Sprig's Alley: your questions answered

Will you come out to Sprig's Alley?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you do gutter sealing in Sprig's Alley?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Sprig's Alley is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across Oxfordshire.

Will you leave a mess?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

Yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available, and we will agree it with you first.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Should I try DIY first?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

What we are called out for in Sprig's Alley

Gutter joints rely on seals that age. Temperature changes make gutters move and that movement opens up tired joints.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Dripping gutter ends
  • Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
  • Rain getting in around a garage door
  • Streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint

Letting a property close to Saunderton station? Then a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

What we can’t put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe

If you are not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter joints
  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims
  • Soffit joints

Aftercare tips

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Sort out a dripping joint early

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. Splits are easier to seal early.

A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches.

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Why deal with it now?

New gutters cost far more than a few resealed joints. Where the gutter is in good order and only a joint leaks a reseal is all it needs. If it has failed, we’ll tell you. In a small place like Sprig's Alley, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Combining jobs into one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.

How the job changes by surface

Roofline trims

We seal the trims, not the roof. A roofer deals with the roof itself.

uPVC fascias

Gaps in fascias spoil the roofline. A neat bead closes them up.

How it works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours from start to finish. Somewhere as small as Sprig's Alley, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter isn’t broken or sagging.
  2. Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
