Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Great Tew

Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. We seal them in a colour to suit where possible. We work on uPVC fascias, garage door frames and soffit joints, and common reasons people get in touch are dripping gutter ends and trim joints where the sealant has failed.

Somewhere as small as Great Tew, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, where walls and rooflines take the weather head on. Joints on those walls need a sealant that moves with the building and stays in place.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Walls and rooflines in Great Tew

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

If you look after a building such as Great Tew County Primary School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. Several properties can go on one quote.

What sealant work cannot fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Sagging gutters or broken brackets

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How it works

At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The work normally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as Great Tew, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter isn’t cracked or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we’re there.

Different surfaces, different methods

uPVC fascias

Joints between fascia boards can open over time. They’re sealed tidily in a suitable colour.

Gutter joints

A gutter joint has to cope with movement and standing water. A gutter sealant made for the job holds best.

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Glance at the soffit joints now and then
  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Do not leave a sagging gutter

A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. Movement will pull the joints open again.

Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains and that can cause damp inside.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

What we are called out for in Great Tew

Sealant laid on a wet or dirty joint fails early. Some quick repairs peel off within a season or two for this reason.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint
  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Stop ends leaking at the end of a run
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Michael and All Angels, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

10 questions to ask before booking

Your questions about gutter sealing in Great Tew

Can you do gutter sealing in Great Tew?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Great Tew is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

What guarantee comes with gutter sealing in Great Tew?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will sealant fix a dripping gutter joint?

Yes, as long as the gutter itself is in good order. We clean and dry the joint before sealing so the sealant bonds.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours for many products, and we will agree it with you first.

Can you reach high gutters?

Single-storey and low-level gutters are straightforward. If it’s higher up, let us know and we will confirm the access.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, it won’t last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.

What should I tell you?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.
