Regrouting across Angus: what to expect
Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We work on wet rooms, tiled floors and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and splashback grout that has darkened.
We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can get on with your day. Expect the work to take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Around Arbroath
In Arbroath, that means homes and buildings near Arbroath High School, Knox's Church and The Corn Exchange pub and the streets around them. Arbroath has its own railway station: Arbroath station. Well-known places in the area include Arbroath Signal Tower Museum (0.6 miles south) and Arbroath Infirmary (0.6 miles south).
Bathrooms and kitchens across Angus
Our regrouting work across Angus covers homes, rentals and businesses, in Arbroath, Forfar and Carnoustie and well beyond. Wherever the job is, all the old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Our work covers the whole of Scotland, Angus included. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast. Along the coast in Angus, window and wall joints facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, and that is where sealant generally gives up first. Good preparation and the right sealant help it cope.
Arbroath: Schools such as Arbroath High School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Homes close to Knox's Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
What affects the cost of regrouting
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Access and height
- The product the joint needs
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
Helping us quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- The type of property
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Photos by email, if that’s easy

Signs you need regrouting
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that’s hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.
Common reasons people contact us include:
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
Surface by surface
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.
Wet rooms
In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so good grout is important. We check for loose tiles before starting.
When it isn’t the sealant
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
How to look after the new joints
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
Use a gentle cleaner on the grout and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers because they wear grout away.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
Angus questions
Do I have to be there?
It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles, while corners and edges need a joint that can move.
Can I do it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?
Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.
