Bathroom resealing in DD9: how it works

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. Common call-outs are for damp behind the bath or under the tray and leaking joints on a shower screen, on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and baths.

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Landlord and commercial work in DD9

For anyone letting property in or around DD9, several properties can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and photos by email help.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Common problems we fix in DD9

The wrong product fails fast. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants are not designed for a joint that is wet every day, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Black spots spreading through the bead
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • Water getting behind the bath panel

How we quote for bathroom resealing

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How much there is to do
  • The product the joint needs
  • Access and height

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Asking for a quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and pictures are welcome.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the bead dries out between uses.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.
