Sealant work in DD10

Our bathroom resealing service in DD10

A bead that has gone black, split or come away shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a photo of the joints, and we’ll give you a clear quote for bathroom resealing in DD10. We work on shower trays & enclosures, baths and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and gaps where the bath or tray has moved.

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Bathroom resealing across DD10: local notes

Across DD10, from Montrose, Inverbervie and St Cyrus outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and DD10 is part of that. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast. Along the coast in DD10, window and wall joints facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, and that’s where sealant usually gives up first. Good preparation and the right sealant help it cope.

Montrose: Letting a property close to Montrose station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. Schools such as Montrose Academy are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Signs you need bathroom resealing

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Steamy rooms that do not dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop

Different surfaces, different methods

Basins & vanity units

A vanity top has a joint along the wall and sometimes at the sides. Water that gets behind can damage the unit, so the joint is sealed in one unbroken line.

Baths

Acrylic baths give a little under load, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.

Why act early?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but where mould is inside the silicone it normally comes back. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • How hidden problems are handled

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. Once it’s cured, wiping it down after use keeps it looking new.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

DD10: your questions answered

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Do you work in DD10?

Yes. We cover DD10 and the rest of Aberdeenshire, as part of our work across South East England, London and Scotland. For a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes, a one-year guarantee. Looking after the joint as we suggest helps it last.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Is it messy?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
