Regrouting in Forfar
Problem with your tiled areas in Forfar? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
- Splashback grout that has darkened
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
How we handle regrouting in Forfar
We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We work on bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are grout washed out of a shower and cracked grout along the bath or tray.
Scottish towns like Forfar tend to mix older stone-built streets, harled houses and newer estates. Bathrooms and kitchens across all of them need their sealant and grout renewing from time to time.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Signs you need regrouting in Forfar
Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.
The problems people usually mention when they call are:
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

Questions to ask before you book
- How hidden problems are handled
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- Whether you can choose the colour
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can go on one quote.
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.
Why deal with it now?
Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. In Forfar, wind and rain soon get through failed outside joints. Inside, a failed seal around a bath or shower lets water into floors and ceilings.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What we do, step by step
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room from start to finish. A visit in Forfar needs three things planned: access, parking and where the work is. Outside work depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Move anything stored near the joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
Ask for a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add pictures by email if you can.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Forfar
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
If you live in an older home near Forfar Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Is regrouting in Forfar guaranteed?
All our work, in Forfar and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
What’s the best way to get a price for regrouting in Forfar?
Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where. We will give you a clear price, with a fixed price before we start.
Can you regrout just the shower?

Do you work in Forfar?
We do. Our applicators work in Forfar, and the service is the same as everywhere else.
Is there any odour?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.
Can I do it myself?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?
Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Mention the colour you have in mind when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
When something else is needed
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Shower walls
Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
