Regrouting across Wokingham: what to expect
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. You might go from white to grey or back again. Just mention the colour you’d like when you phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email. We’re often asked to deal with kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and grout washed out of a shower, across bathroom floors, wet rooms and bathroom wall tiles.
A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
What affects the price in Wokingham
The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

What’s near Reading
We work in homes and buildings around Eurospeak Language School, University of Reading library and All Nations Christian Centre and the streets around them. Nearby too are Former Kennet Arms (under half a mile east), Kendrick School (0.6 miles north-east), Coley Primary School (within half a mile north) and Eldon Square (0.9 miles east). The closest station to Reading is Reading West station, roughly 0.7 miles north-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include The Oracle (less than half a mile north-east) and Berkshire Medical Heritage Centre Museum (0.8 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Sonning Hill and Longwater.
Where we work in Wokingham
Our regrouting work across Wokingham covers homes, rentals and businesses, in Reading, Woodley and Earley and well beyond. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. Whatever the job in Wokingham, surfaces are cleaned back properly before new sealant goes in.
Reading: In the older streets around All Nations Christian Centre, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. For landlords with property near Reading West station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom wall tiles
Tiles away from the shower stay drier but grout there still discolours. Regrouting brings them back in line.
Shower walls
Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.
What affects the quote in Wokingham
We don’t publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether the work is at height
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Where the property is
- Whether it has been sealed before
To get a quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before we start.
Why act early?
With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step.
What your quote should include
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- What product goes in the joint
- Whether you can choose the colour
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple:
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers because they wear grout away.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
Wokingham questions
Is it worth trying it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
Silicone. Grout is for the joints between tiles, while corners and edges need a joint that can move.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We’ll show you which ones at the start.
Where are you based?
Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
What should I tell you?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.
