About bathroom resealing in RG45
A shower joint gets soaked every day. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, finished smooth so water drains away rather than collecting. We are often asked to deal with two layers of silicone, both failing and a bead that has pulled away from the tiles, across sinks & splashbacks, shower trays & enclosures and baths.
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
How we quote
Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Near you in Crowthorne
We work in homes and buildings around Crowthorne Church of England Primary School, Edgbarrow Woods and The Prince pub and the streets around them. Also close by are King Edward VI Aston School (under half a mile north-west) and Crowthorne Methodist Church (less than half a mile south-east). Crowthorne’s nearest station is Crowthorne station, about 1 mile south-west. Other landmarks nearby include The Lexicon (3.7 miles north-east) and Pinewood Hospital (0.9 miles north). The countryside around Crowthorne includes Wildmoor Heath and Heath Lake.
Where we work in RG45
RG45 has homes of every age, old and new, with plenty of rented property in places like Crowthorne, Priestwood and Farley Wood. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.
The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across RG45 is planned around the weather.
Crowthorne: Schools such as Crowthorne Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Crowthorne Methodist Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
Looking after it afterwards
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Wait for the cure time we give you
- Keep bottles off the sealant line
- Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
- Wipe the sealant dry after showering
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.
A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.
What affects the quote in RG45
There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Access and height
- How much there is to do
- The old material and how stubborn it is
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The type of property
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Different surfaces, different methods
Shower trays & enclosures
Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.
What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
What happens if it’s left?
You do not need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. Replacing the joint is usually all it takes, as long as the fittings themselves are sound. If we find a deeper problem, you’ll hear it from us.
What your quote should include
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Is VAT in the price?
Your questions about bathroom resealing in RG45
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes, we do. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.
Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
When can I use the bath or shower again?
Usually after around 24 hours. We will tell you the cure time for the product we used.
Can I choose the colour of the sealant?
White and clear are the most common choices, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Tell us what you’d like when you get in touch.
Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?
Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Good ventilation helps keep it away.
Is it worth trying it myself?
That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
