Bathroom resealing across GU15: what to expect

A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop.

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Bathroom resealing across GU15: local notes

Across GU15, from Camberley, Sandhurst and Frimley outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outdoor sealant still needs a dry day and clean surfaces, so outside work in GU15 is planned around the forecast.

Camberley: If you look after a building such as Prior Heath Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you live in an older home near Church of St Paul, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Why it fails

The wrong product fails fast. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants are not designed for a joint that’s wet every day, so they crack, discolour or grow mould quickly. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Look out for these signs:

  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether the work is at height

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

What to tell us for a quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • Where the property is
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Whether it has been sealed before

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

DIY versus a professional finish

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use

Do not stand bottles along the bead, because they trap water against the silicone. A quick squeegee after showering keeps water from sitting on the joint.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • A tray or bath that is cracked through
  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

GU15: your questions answered

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in GU15?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You will get a clear quote before we start.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. Every job carries our one-year guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
