How bathroom resealing works in RG2

It isn’t only bathrooms. Worktop upstands, sink edges and splashback joints get wet every single day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. Typical jobs include sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away and a reseal done over the top of the old bead, across baths, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

What you will pay

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.

Bathrooms and kitchens across RG2

RG2 has homes of every age, old and new, and in places like Earley, Shinfield and Arborfield Garrison there’s plenty of rented property too. Sound sealant and clean grout keep water out and rooms looking cared for.

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across RG2 is planned around the weather.

Shinfield: Letting a property close to Reading Green Park station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

When it isn’t the sealant

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

Why deal with it now?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but where mould is inside the silicone it generally comes back. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower trays & enclosures

The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.

Baths

Acrylic baths give a little under load, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Filling the bath first allows for that movement.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple:

  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning usually won’t remove it. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Questions from RG2

Which products do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before work begins.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured for every job we do.

What colours of sealant can you use?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Where do you work from?

We are based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
