Gutter sealing in Shinfield
We do not replace gutters, fascias or roofs. Sealant fixes joints and it cannot mend broken brackets, split sections or blocked downpipes. If you have water running down the wall below the gutter and gaps along fascia and soffit joints, we can help.
Homes around Shinfield range from older cottages to newer houses, with walls and rooflines of every type. Older homes need their gutter and trim joints kept tight, newer ones their movement joints.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Shinfield as everywhere else we work.

Common questions in Shinfield
Is Shinfield within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Shinfield for gutter sealing?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Shinfield is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
What do you put in the joint?
Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We’ll tell you what we are using and why.
What should I tell you?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
How long will you be here?
A typical job takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
Can I do it myself?
Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.
The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. A visit to Shinfield is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.
- We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
- We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
- We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
- We check the run and clear debris near the joints.
Preparing for the visit
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.
Why it’s worth doing now in Shinfield
A dripping stop end can soak the wall right through the wet months. Resealing it is a quick job before the damage spreads. Around Shinfield, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, and that is a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Walls and rooflines in Shinfield
London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind. Historic houses like Stratfield Saye House (about 4.5 miles south-west) are a reminder that the area around Shinfield has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.
In the older streets around Church of St Mary the Virgin, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. Schools such as Shinfield Infant and Nursery School are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. For landlords with property near Reading Green Park station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

How the job changes by surface
uPVC fascias
Gaps in fascias spoil the roofline. A neat bead closes them up.
Garage door frames
The joint between frame and brickwork moves and weathers. We use a sealant made for outdoor joints.
Aftercare tips
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
- Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
- Look at the gutters while it’s raining
Look at fascia and trim joints when you’re checking the gutters. Splits are easier to seal early.
A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The number and length of the joints
- Any mould that needs treating
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.
Asking for a quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Roughly how big the job is
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Whether it has been sealed before
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add photos by email if you can.
