About regrouting in Medway
We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We’re often asked to deal with dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, across bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and wet rooms.
We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
What you’ll pay
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Landmarks near Gillingham
In Gillingham, that means homes and buildings near The Robert Napier School, Featherby Junior School and The Robert Napier School, among other places. Other local landmarks include Holy Trinity Church (within half a mile north-east), The Star pub (0.6 miles west) and Ambley Wood (0.8 miles south). The closest station to Gillingham is Gillingham (Kent) station, about 1.5 miles north-west. Nearby you’ll also find Medway Maritime Hospital (1.6 miles west) and Six Poor Travellers House (3.3 miles west). For a walk, there’s Blue Bell Hill and Bishop Saltings.
Where we work in Medway
Homes across Medway range from older properties to new builds, and in places like Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester there’s plenty of rented property too. Regrouting keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.
London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across Medway is planned around the weather. Medway includes coastal places, where outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Gillingham: Rented homes near Gillingham (Kent) station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Featherby Junior School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
DIY versus a professional finish
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
When something else is needed
We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Cracked or broken tiles
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
How we quote for regrouting
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The number of rooms or windows
- The product the joint needs
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first.
What to tell us for a quote
You do not need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:
- Roughly how big the job is
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The type of property
For a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before we start.
How to look after the new joints
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Wipe water off the walls when you are done
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
Have any tile that moves checked straight away. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
Why it fails
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.
The most common problems we see are:
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?
It can. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint, not just the surface.
