Regrouting for Grain homes and businesses

Regrouting in Grain, done properly

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you’re dealing with grout that’s cracking and breaking up and cracked grout along the bath or tray, we can help.

Being in a small place like Grain makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Regrouting in Grain: local notes

Grain is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around Church of St James, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For landlords with property near Sheerness-On-Sea station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Grain is about 5 miles north-west of Minster, in Medway. We provide regrouting to homes and businesses in Grain and the surrounding area, as part of our work across Medway. Grain is one of 68 towns and villages in Medway where we work for regrouting. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, roughly 22 miles from Grain.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Regrouting a wet room helps keep water on the surface of the tiles. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.

Kitchen splashbacks

We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.

When to call us in Grain

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

Look out for these signs:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles

Managing a site like St James Church of England Primary Academy? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

10 questions to ask before booking

What we cannot put right

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Keep the fan on after showering

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Your questions about regrouting in Grain

Do you cover Grain for regrouting?

Yes, Grain is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Sheerness-On-Sea station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Do you grout the corners?

We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Can I do it myself?

That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Grain?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing and where.

How it works

You do not need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area for a typical job. Somewhere as small as Grain, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
