Sealant work in KA6

Our bathroom resealing service in KA6

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. We work on shower trays & enclosures, baths and sinks & splashbacks, and people most often call us about a reseal done over the top of the old bead and a joint torn by a bath that flexes.

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Bathroom resealing across KA6: local notes

KA6 has homes of every age, old and new, with plenty of rented property in places like Ayr, Forehill and Drongan. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.

Scotland has its own building regulations, and homes here bring their own details: harled walls, sash and case windows and, in the larger towns and cities, tenements. KA6 is part of the area we cover across Scotland. Coastal guest houses and holiday lets in KA6 can see heavy use in busy months, which is hard on sealant and grout, and the weather is hard on the outside too.

Drongan: Around Drongan, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. For jobs in and around Drongan, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The size of the job

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The problem you’ve noticed

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll take it from there.

What happens if it’s left?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but where mould is inside the silicone it generally comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What product goes in the joint
  • What the cure time is

Signs you need bathroom resealing

Sealant laid on a damp, dusty or greasy joint never bonds properly. Traces of soap, bath oil and old sealant stop it gripping, so a rushed job can start to lift early.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Two layers of silicone, both failing
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Move toiletries away from the joint

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

KA6 questions

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Tell us what needs doing and where, plus pictures if you have them. If we need more, we will ask.

Is white the only colour available?

Most people choose white or clear, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.
