Bathroom & kitchen resealing in Hillhead, South Ayrshire
Bathroom resealing across Hillhead and nearby, with old sealant always removed completely and a 12-month guarantee.
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
Signs you need bathroom resealing in Hillhead
Older sealant shrinks and hardens. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners don’t help.
Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Two layers of silicone, both failing
In and around Hillhead, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What your quote should include
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Is VAT in the price?
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
About our bathroom resealing in Hillhead
Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the new joint isn’t pulled apart the first time it’s used. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. We work on sinks & splashbacks, baths and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are splits where the tray meets the wall and black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Hillhead work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Hillhead as everywhere else we work.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
What happens if it’s left?
Running new silicone over the old joint can look tidy for a few weeks, but it will not bond. Water creeps under it and mould follows. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Hillhead questions
Is bathroom resealing in Hillhead guaranteed?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Will you come out to Hillhead?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.
What sealant do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll explain our choice.
Where are you based?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Hillhead, along with the rest of our area.
What colours of sealant can you use?
White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.
How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?
That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

How the visit works
The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. For a place like Hillhead, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
- We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.

- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

How to look after the new joints
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
What sealant work can’t fix
To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
- Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Bathroom resealing around Hillhead
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
If you live in an older home near Coylton Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
