How bathroom resealing works in DG1
Homes in DG1 have the same weak spots as anywhere else: the long edge of the bath, the base of the shower tray, the back of the basin and the line along the worktop. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. Common call-outs are for lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and mouldy sealant that has gone black, across wet rooms, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units.
There’s no need to move everything out, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower for a typical job.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
How we quote
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
What you get with us
- Over 20 years’ experience
- An ARBOMaster approved applicator
- 12-month guarantee on every job
- You choose the colour before work begins
Ask for a quote
For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.
What’s near Dumfries
In Dumfries, that means homes and buildings near Myles Bar, Dumfries Academy and Dumfries, among other places. There’s a railway station in Dumfries itself: Dumfries station. A little further out are Gracefield Arts Centre (less than half a mile north) and Dumfries Castle (1 mile south). The countryside around Dumfries includes Lochaber Loch.
Bathrooms and kitchens across DG1
DG1 has homes of every age, old and new, with plenty of rented property in places like Dumfries, Heathhall and Troqueer. Sound sealant and clean grout keep water out and rooms looking cared for.
Scottish weather is hard on outside joints, especially in the wetter west, while generally soft water means less limescale indoors but no less mould. That shapes the choice of sealant for jobs across DG1. Along the coast in DG1, holiday lets and guest houses can have bathrooms in near-constant use, which is hard on sealant and grout, and the weather is hard on the outside too.
Dumfries: If you let a flat or house near Dumfries station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. If you look after a building such as Dumfries Academy, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
Why deal with it now?
A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it can’t stick to what’s underneath. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in DG1
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether the work is at height
- The old material and how stubborn it is
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
What to tell us for a quote
When you call or email, these details help:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To arrange one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Common problems we fix in DG1
A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
- Gaps between the worktop and the wall
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
How to look after the new joints
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
Have a look at the joints every few months. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, so if something does not look right, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
Questions from DG1
Is white the only colour available?
We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
Where are you based?
Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Do you work in DG1?
Yes. From our base in Crawley, we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland, DG1 included.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.
