Need bathroom resealing in Woll?

Woll: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Woll?

Yes, Woll is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is bathroom resealing in Woll guaranteed?

All our work, in Woll and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

What should I tell you?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few photos.

Will you leave a mess?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Getting it wet too early can spoil the new joint.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. Sealing over the top looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts, because silicone does not bond to silicone. We remove the old bead completely before resealing.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

Bathroom resealing in Woll

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. If you have leaks into the floor or ceiling below and a joint torn by a bath that flexes, we can put it right, on wet rooms, kitchen worktops & upstands and baths alike.

For a place like Woll, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

For landlords and businesses

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

When something else is needed

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Woll

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

If you live in an older home near Ashkirk Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Woll is about 4 miles south of Selkirk, in the Scottish Borders. We provide bathroom resealing to homes and businesses in Woll and nearby, as part of our work across the Scottish Borders. How the visit works

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Somewhere like Woll may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Which sealant suits the joint

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

We do not publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Common problems we fix in Woll

No sealant lasts indefinitely. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall

Around Woll, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Aftercare tips

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then

Have a look at the joints every few months. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, and if anything looks wrong, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do not wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.
