Floor joint sealing in Woll, done properly

Wet-area floor joints keep water out of the gap behind skirting and plinths. A flexible silicone seal keeps it out and stops dirt collecting. We work on wet room & bathroom floors, skirting boards and tiled floors, and people most often call us about gaps opening between the floor and skirting and open joints around bathroom floor edges.

Work in a place like Woll is planned ahead, journey included. Outdoor plot mastic needs dry weather, but indoor floor and skirting joints can be sealed whatever the forecast.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How we quote for floor joint sealing

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • The amount of work
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

FAQs for Woll

Is Woll in your area for floor joint sealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Woll is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Is floor joint sealing in Woll guaranteed?

All our work, in Woll and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

How do I get a quote for floor joint sealing in Woll?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Can sealant along the skirting be painted?

It depends on the sealant, so let us know first. Joints that will be painted get a paintable product and wet areas get silicone.

Do you seal kitchen plinths to the floor?

Yes. These joints get wet every time the floor is cleaned, so we seal them with silicone suited to wet areas.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Do you work on commercial floors?

Yes, including warehouses, units, shops and offices. Work can be planned around your hours.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Ask before painting over a sealed joint
  • Keep floor cleaning water to a minimum at the edges
  • Keep dirt out of the joints
  • Get cracks along tile grout lines looked at early

Keep heavy traffic off resealed concrete joints for the cure time we give you. Cone off the area if needed while it cures.

Small gaps are quick to seal. Ignored, they fill with dirt and open further and are harder to clean out.

What the job involves on each surface

Tiled floors

A crack running along a grout line is often a sign of a missing movement joint. That line is converted to a flexible joint where it suits the floor.

Commercial floors

Commercial washrooms and kitchens have floor joints that get wet constantly. We reseal them with a sealant suited to wet areas.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving skirting gaps until the next decorating job lets dirt and draughts in. Sealing them now is a short job in most rooms. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

The process

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. The work usually takes a morning or an afternoon for most homes. Somewhere like Woll may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. First, the floor type, the gap and the traffic are checked.
  2. We remove what’s in the joint now.
  3. The joint is vacuumed clean and backing fitted where needed.
  4. We apply the sealant in a colour that suits the floor.
  5. We tool it neatly and tell you when it can be walked on and cleaned.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

What floor joint sealing looks like in Woll

Many new homes in Scotland are timber-framed, and as the frame dries and settles, skirting and sealant joints can open up. Floors around the Scottish Borders run from suspended timber in older homes to concrete in newer houses and units, and they don’t all move the same way. The joint at the skirting or threshold has to allow for that.

Around Woll, as everywhere, floor joint sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. Community buildings like Ashkirk Parish Church are part of the picture too: floor and skirting joints in halls and kitchens wear like any others.

Woll is about 4 miles south of Selkirk, in the Scottish Borders. Anywhere in TD7, our applicators can take on floor joint sealing. We cover 89 towns and villages across the Scottish Borders, large and small. There’s also a page for Edinburgh, about 34 miles away.

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.
