Leave it or put it right?

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, turning a small job into a building repair. Around Jedburgh, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

Why Jedburgh clients choose us

  • You choose the colour before work begins

About our bathroom resealing in Jedburgh

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on sinks & splashbacks, baths and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are water getting behind the kitchen upstand and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone.

In and around a place like Jedburgh, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Every job is covered by our 12-month guarantee.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Any working-time requirements on site

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. We’ll explain what we’d do and give you a clear price before work begins.

How the job changes by surface

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, and our work is on the visible joints only.

Sinks & splashbacks

Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.

Bathroom resealing in Jedburgh: local notes

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Jedburgh. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

Managing a site like Jedburgh Grammar School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. In the older streets around Boston Church and Offices, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)
  • A leaking waste, trap or valve

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself generally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Jedburgh may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any tricky access
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use

Don’t stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use keeps water from sitting on the joint.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
