Regrouting for Dury homes and businesses

About our regrouting in Dury

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We work on tiled floors, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about splashback grout that has darkened and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard.

FAQs for Dury

Is Dury within the area you cover?

Yes, Dury is covered. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is regrouting in Dury guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can you change the grout colour?

Yes. Many customers do. Darker grout can hide marks, while lighter grout brightens a room.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

We can. We will look at the rest of the room too and tell you if anything else needs attention.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Leave it or put it right?

Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.

Kitchen splashbacks

Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

How to look after the new joints

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Keep the fan on after showering

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

When it isn’t the sealant

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

What affects the cost of regrouting

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The product the joint needs
  • Access and height

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

Helping us quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The address or postcode of the job

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Dury homes and their sealant

Dury is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Whether the job is in Dury itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. In and around Dury, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

The process

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on. Expect the work to take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Outside jobs in Dury need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
