Quotes for regrouting in Sound

We don’t publish a price list. The quote depends on:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The size of the job
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

If you are in Sound and need regrouting, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you’ll get a clear quote before work begins.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Sound

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the discolouration has normally soaked into the grout. New grout is the fix that lasts, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. If you’re dealing with grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee.

Common questions in Sound

Do you cover Sound for regrouting?

Yes, Sound is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you take on hotel work around Sound?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Should I try DIY first?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Do the sealants smell?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures. Opening a window helps.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you change the grout colour?

Yes. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint, not just the surface.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Sound?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Can tenants book the work?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Regrouting around Sound

Sound is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Sound has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

Around Sound, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Sound is about 1 mile south-west of Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands. Sound gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. Sound is one of 63 places in the Shetland Islands where we work for regrouting.

Work in ZE1 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include Quoys Road, South Road and Oversund Road, all of which we cover. Nearby, we also carry out regrouting in Lerwick (1 mile north-east), Gulberwick (2 miles south-west), Gremista (2 miles north), Grindiscol (2 miles east) and Heogan (2 miles north-east). As one of the bigger places in the Shetland Islands, Sound has every kind of property, from flats to offices. For island and remote addresses, the job takes a little more planning.

How the visit works

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. The work usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

When to call us in Sound

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Managing a site like Anderson High School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What to look for in a quote

  • What insurance they hold
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • How long to leave it before use

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom floors

Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It wears and darkens over time.

Kitchen splashbacks

A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

What sealant work cannot fix

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.
