Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Sound

Across Sound, the joints we reseal are the ones that fail in any home: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. If you have cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and splits where the tray meets the wall, we can help, on kitchen worktops & upstands, sinks & splashbacks and baths alike.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the bead dries out between uses.

Do not wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

For landlords and businesses

If you manage several properties in or around Sound, several properties can go on one quote. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and pictures by email help.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.

When it isn’t the sealant

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • A tray or bath that is cracked through
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths

Do you work in hotels near Sound?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we’ll quote it together.

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we have been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.

Bathroom resealing around Sound

Sound is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.

In and around Sound, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. If you look after a building such as Anderson High School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Leave it or put it right?

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, depending on the size of the job. For a place like Sound, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Sound

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • The product the joint needs
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
