About our regrouting in Gremista

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the stain is often in the grout itself. New grout is the fix that lasts and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. If you’re dealing with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and crumbling grout between the tiles, we can help.

A bathroom in a place like Gremista gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

All our work is covered by our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in the Shetland Islands.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Gremista may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Regrouting a wet room helps keep water on the surface of the tiles. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

Why act early in Gremista

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What you get with us

  • A 12-month guarantee on all work

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Gremista

Gremista is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Questions from Gremista

Can you do regrouting in Gremista?

Yes, Gremista is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you take on hotel work around Gremista?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. A room-by-room programme keeps most rooms in use while the work goes on.

What does regrouting cost?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you grout the corners?

Flexible sealant. Grout belongs between the tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Will it make a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or just the joints that have failed.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

How we quote for regrouting

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The size of the job
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The rough size of the job
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Whether it has been sealed before

For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.
