Regrouting in Gulberwick
Problem with your tiled areas in Gulberwick? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly.
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
How we handle regrouting in Gulberwick
Across Gulberwick, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. Typical jobs include grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, across bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and tiled floors.
For a place like Gulberwick, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

When it isn’t the sealant
We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

Common problems we fix in Gulberwick
A poor original job is a common cause. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.
The problems people generally mention when they call are:
- Splashback grout that has darkened
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Old grout in a dated colour
In and around Gulberwick, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What regrouting looks like in Gulberwick
Gulberwick is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.
If you live in an older home near Gulberwick Mission Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Gulberwick is in the Shetland Islands. Gulberwick gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. We cover 63 towns and villages across the Shetland Islands.

Gulberwick: your questions answered
Do you cover Gulberwick for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Gulberwick is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Do you cover smaller places like Gulberwick?
Yes, Gulberwick is covered. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do the sealants smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
How long does regrouting take?
It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll tell you when we quote.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes, we can. More than one area can be quoted together.
Which products do you use?
It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we’re fully insured too.
How we quote for regrouting
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The size of the job
- The number of rooms or windows
- The old material and how stubborn it is
What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- The address or postcode of the job
- The problem you’ve noticed
- The type of property
- A few photos by email, if you can
Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send pictures if you have them.
How the visit works
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room and we leave things clean and tidy. Outside jobs in Gulberwick need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before

How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
