Regrouting in Voe
Specialist regrouting for Voe: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Call for a quick quote.
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
Regrouting for homes and businesses in Voe
Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on tiled floors, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about floor grout that has worn and darkened and grout in a colour the owner wants to change.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
What affects the cost of regrouting
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The type of sealant required
- The size of the job
- Access and height
- The number of rooms or windows
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.
What we need to know
When you contact us, it’s useful to know:
- Roughly how big the job is
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- If someone has resealed it before
- Photos by email, if that is easy
Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.

Why deal with it now?
Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out and stains often come back through. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Looking after it afterwards
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check the corner silicone every few months
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
Have any tile that moves checked straight away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.
What happens on the day
When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a place like Voe, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Mention any tricky access
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
How to get a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

Regrouting in Voe: local notes
Voe is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
Around Voe, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. For an older house near a landmark such as Voe Kirk, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What we cannot put right
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

What the job involves on each surface
Bathroom floors
New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.
Kitchen splashbacks
The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.
Questions from Voe
Will you come out to Voe?
Yes, Voe is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Voe?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
What does regrouting cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.
Can you regrout just the shower?
Yes. We will check the other tiled areas as well and let you know if more needs doing.
Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?
If tiles are loose, something behind them has normally failed. Grout on its own won’t fix that and we’ll say so before going ahead.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint.
What do you put in the joint?
We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll explain our choice.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.
