When it is not the sealant

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

How we handle regrouting in Aith

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on bathroom floors, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles, and the jobs we see most are cracked grout along the bath or tray and grout washed out of a shower.

A bathroom in a place like Aith gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

All our work is covered by our 12-month guarantee.

What affects the quote in Aith

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • How much there is to do
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The product the joint needs
  • How many areas need sealing

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Roughly how big the job is

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.

Questions from Aith

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Aith?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is Aith within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you change the grout colour?

It can. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint, not just the surface.

Can tenants book the work?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own won’t fix that, and we will tell you before work begins.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. We will check the other tiled areas as well and tell you if anything else needs attention.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

DIY versus a professional finish

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Signs you need regrouting in Aith

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

In and around Aith, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • The length of the guarantee
  • What insurance they hold

Choosing a sealant specialist

Landlord and commercial work in Aith

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can be quoted together, and we are fully insured for the work.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

We reseal edges at the same time as regrouting, so everything is renewed at once.

Bathroom wall tiles

Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

How it works

You do not need to clear the whole room or building, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room in most cases. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
