Trusted regrouting in Cammo

What happens on the day

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In a city area like Cammo, parking may be by permit or pay-and-display, so tell us what’s nearby. For flats, mention the door entry system and any shared-stair arrangements.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Advice

Regrouting in Cammo, done properly

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, with silicone renewed in the corners. If you have cracked grout along the bath or tray and crumbling grout between the tiles, we can help, whatever the surface.

In Scotland’s cities, including the area around Cammo, many older flats had their bathrooms added into small rooms later on. Rooms like that are often small and slow to dry out, which is hard on sealant and grout.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges

Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window so the grout dries between uses.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Access and height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear price for the lot.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

Getting a quote is simple: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand.

What sealant work cannot fix

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before any work starts. Sealant won’t put right:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Cracked or broken tiles

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

What regrouting looks like in Cammo

Cammo is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Tenement flats are common across Edinburgh, where a failed seal can soon reach the flat below.

If you let a flat or house near Edinburgh Gateway station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. Schools such as Craigmount High School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Questions from Cammo

Do you work for landlords with property near Edinburgh Gateway station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Is Cammo in your area for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Cammo is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

What should I tell you?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.

Do you reseal at the same time?

We usually do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and could still leak.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Should corners be grouted or sealed?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They flex and grout cannot take that movement.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.

How the job changes by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We rake it out and regrout and renew the silicone at the edges.

Why it’s worth doing now in Cammo

Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. In a tenement flat in Cammo, a failed seal is rarely just your problem: a leak can come through the ceiling below, and gaps in shared walls or fire-rated joints matter to every flat.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
