Bathroom resealing in DG7: how it works
It is not only bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback get wet every single day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. We reseal them with a kitchen-suitable silicone, matched to the worktop where it’s on show. We work on shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are mouldy sealant that has gone black and a joint torn by a bath that flexes.
We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. Once we have agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen.
- First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.
How we quote
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Bathrooms and kitchens across DG7
In DG7, bathroom resealing takes in flats, houses, rentals and businesses, from Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet and New Galloway to the quieter places in between. Wherever the job is, all the old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Our work covers the whole of Scotland, DG7 included. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast. Parts of DG7 are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Castle Douglas: Managing a site like Castle Douglas High School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Around Castle Douglas, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
- Move toiletries away from the joint
- Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint. A dry joint lasts longer.
Small signs come before a leak: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. Any of these means the joint needs attention.
What happens if it’s left?
Sorting it now is quick: the work takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Wait for a leak and you may be looking at panels off, drying out and redecorating too.
What your quote should include
- What the cure time is
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- What insurance they hold
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
When it is not the sealant
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
Landlord and commercial work in DG7
We work for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for.
If you manage several properties in or around DG7, several properties can be quoted together. Send us the addresses and the work at each.
What we’re called out for in DG7
Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants aren’t made for constant wetting, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. Wet areas call for a sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
Questions from DG7
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover DG7 and the rest of Dumfries and Galloway.
Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?
Yes. Kitchen joints get extra degreasing before the new bead goes on, then a colour-matched bead is laid.
Does the resealing come with a guarantee?
Yes. We give a 12-month guarantee on every job, and we are fully insured.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Does someone need to be in?
We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Should I try DIY first?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
Do you cover DG7?
Yes. We’re based in Crawley and work across South East England, London and Scotland, DG7 included.
