Our applicators work in Castle Douglas on sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.

- Movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant
- Panel joints letting water in
External mastic for homes and businesses in Castle Douglas
Many failed façade joints only get noticed once there’s a stain or a damp patch inside. We look over the joints, agree the ones to renew and reseal with a flexible, weatherproof product in a matching colour. If you have joints where the bead has come unstuck and rigid filler in a joint that should flex, we can put it right.
Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.
Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What we can’t put right
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- Failed render or damaged cladding panels
- Cracks in the bricks or render themselves, away from the joints
- Structural movement, which needs a surveyor or engineer
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
What we seal
- Copings & trims
- Render & cladding joints
- Brickwork movement joints
- Concrete & block
- Joints between brick and frames
- Façade panels
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Aftercare tips
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Get split or bare joints resealed while the damage is small
- Check external joints each spring
- Leave the joints unpainted unless we have said otherwise
- Point out the joints to other trades
Give the sealant the cure time we tell you before anything rubs against it. The surface skins over quickly, but full cure takes longer.
Once a joint can’t move, the wall finds another way, usually as cracking in the brickwork or render nearby. Catch it early and you reduce the risk.
Castle Douglas questions
Do you cover Castle Douglas for external mastic?
Yes, Castle Douglas is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Will you come out to Castle Douglas?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you reach joints on upper floors?
It depends on the building. We work on joints that can be reached safely. Give us some details and we’ll confirm the access.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We’re fully insured for every job we do.
What information do you need?
Let us know what needs doing and where. If we need more, we’ll ask.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
Is it OK to fill a movement joint with cement?
No. A mortar-filled joint can’t move, so the movement cracks the wall elsewhere. It needs a flexible sealant over backing rod.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
What external mastic looks like in Castle Douglas
Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.
Managing a site like Castle Douglas High School? Then its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

Common problems we fix in Castle Douglas
Weeds, moss and debris in a joint are a sign the sealant has gone. Dirt and roots then trap moisture in the joint.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- Joints with sealant missing in places
- Rain getting behind render or cladding at a joint
- Failed sealant between panels on a façade
- Old sealant gone brittle and cracked
Around Castle Douglas, as everywhere, external mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Questions to ask before you book

- Is the old sealant removed completely?

- Each joint is checked and the colour of the new sealant agreed.
- Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
- Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
- Primer is applied wherever the sealant needs it.
- A low-modulus exterior sealant is gunned in and tooled to a neat finish.
