Regrouting in Castle Douglas
Grout fills the gaps between tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water can get in behind the tiles. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. If you have crumbling grout between the tiles and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can help, on shower walls, tiled floors and bathroom floors alike.
In and around a place like Castle Douglas, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.
Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee in Castle Douglas and across Dumfries and Galloway.

Looking after it afterwards
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
What affects the quote in Castle Douglas
There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Access and height
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- When we can work, for business premises
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.
Asking for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- If someone has resealed it before
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- The problem you’ve noticed
To get a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. We’ll send you a clear quote before any work starts.
How the visit works
A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and tidy away. It usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outdoor work around Castle Douglas depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
Preparing for the visit
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Tell us if parking is tricky

What happens if it’s left?
Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.

DIY versus a professional finish
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
