Gelston Regrouting
Regrouting across Gelston and nearby, with old sealant always removed completely and a one-year guarantee.
- Splashback grout that has darkened
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Old grout in a dated colour
What happens if it’s left?
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. In a place like Gelston, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

Regrouting in Gelston, done properly
Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in, then reseal the corners and edges. We work on wet rooms, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are splashback grout that has darkened and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.
Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Regrouting in Gelston: local notes
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
If you live in an older home near Kirkland Of Gelston, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Have loose tiles looked at early
Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.
Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.
When to call us in Gelston
Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that is hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Grout washed out of a shower
Around Gelston, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Questions to ask before you book
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether you can choose the colour
- Is VAT in the price?
How we quote for regrouting
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- When we can work, for business premises
- The size of the job
Doing several joints on one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.
What we need to know
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- The type of property
- Roughly how big the job is
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Where the property is
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email pictures if that’s easy.
What we can’t put right
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.
Joints and surfaces we work on

- Bathroom floors
- Kitchen splashbacks

How the visit works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we have agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Let us know about parking restrictions

Your questions about regrouting in Gelston
Can you do regrouting in Gelston?
Yes, Gelston is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Is Gelston within the area you cover?
Yes. Gelston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.
What sealant do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we will explain our choice.
Do I need to be at home?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
Corners get silicone, not grout. They move slightly, and grout there cracks.
Can you regrout just the shower?
We can. We’ll look at the rest of the room too and tell you if anything else needs attention.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.
