Bathroom Resealing in New Galloway
Our applicators work in New Galloway on bath, shower, basin, wet room, worktop and sink resealing. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly.
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Gaps between the worktop and the wall
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
About our bathroom resealing in New Galloway
Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. If you have a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal and leaks into the floor or ceiling below, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

What sealant work can’t fix
We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- A leaking waste, trap or valve
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.
Surfaces we seal
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Basins & vanity units
- Baths
- Sinks & splashbacks
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple:
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Wait for the cure time we give you
- Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.
Small signs come before a leak: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.
The process
You do not need to clear the whole room or building before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the job takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower for a typical job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
- Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
How to prepare
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

What else we do in New Galloway
Bathrooms and kitchens in New Galloway
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Around New Galloway, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How the job changes by surface
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so we fill it with water before sealing. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and isn’t torn the first time it’s used.
Wet rooms
Wet room floors move slightly as they’re used, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Where grout in a corner has cracked, we can replace it with sealant.
Why it’s worth doing now in New Galloway
You do not need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes. If something else is wrong, we’ll tell you. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

New Galloway: your questions answered
Is New Galloway within the area you cover?
Yes. New Galloway is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you take on hotel work around New Galloway?
Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
Can tenants book the work?
Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
What does bathroom resealing cost?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.
How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?
The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or as long as we advise for that product.
Do you guarantee your resealing?
Yes, a 12-month guarantee. Looking after the joint as we suggest helps it last.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Do the sealants smell?
Some sealants have a smell while they cure, but it fades. Opening a window helps.
DIY versus a professional finish
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
Signs you need bathroom resealing in New Galloway
Plenty of failed sealant has been laid over the top of older sealant. Fresh silicone can’t grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
- Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
Whether the job is in New Galloway itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
