Bathroom resealing in Inverclyde: how it works
Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback get wet every single day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. We work on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are water getting behind the kitchen upstand and splits where the tray meets the wall.
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is and we leave things clean and tidy.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
What you will pay
The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

What’s near Greenock
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Watt Library, The James Watt pub and Wellington Academy, among other places. Greenock has its own railway station: Drumfrochar station. A little further out are McLean Museum and Art Gallery (0.6 miles north-east) and Oak Mall (0.7 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Lyle Hill.
Bathroom resealing across Inverclyde: local notes
In Inverclyde, bathroom resealing takes in flats, houses, rentals and businesses, in Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock and well beyond. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and Inverclyde is part of that. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast. In the coastal parts of Inverclyde, the sea-facing side of a building takes the most weather, so they’re often the first to fail. The right product and careful preparation help it last.
Greenock: Rented homes near Drumfrochar station change hands often, and mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wellington Academy, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
For landlords and businesses
Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
For anyone letting property in or around Inverclyde, several properties can go on one quote. Send us the addresses and the work at each, and photos by email help.
Honest limits
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t solve:
- Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
Why act early?
Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Without that preparation, the new bead won’t last.
What your quote should include
- Which colour the sealant will be
- What insurance they hold
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- Is VAT in the price?
Why it fails
A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. An acrylic bath flexes under load, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Inverclyde: your questions answered
Can you just seal over the old silicone?
No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Is there any odour?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Is it messy?
We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.
Is white the only colour available?
White and clear are the most common choices, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it normally can’t be cleaned out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.
