Bathroom resealing in Gourock

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Gourock. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every job carries our 12-month guarantee. We are often asked to deal with new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone, on kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee.

How to look after the new joints

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the bead dries out between uses.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Gourock

Gourock is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

In the older streets around Old Gourock Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you let a flat or house near Gourock station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. DIY versus a professional finish

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, turning a small job into a building repair. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

How the job changes by surface

Basins & vanity units

On a basin, neatness shows: the bead is right in front of you, so it’s tooled cleanly and evenly, in white, clear or a colour to suit.

Baths

Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Filling the bath first allows for that movement.

What sealant work cannot fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What affects the quote in Gourock

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much there is to do
  • The type of sealant required
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number of rooms or windows

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • The rough size of the job
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

For a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will give you a clear price before any work starts.

Gourock: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Gourock?

Yes, Gourock is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you work for landlords with property near Gourock station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Gourock?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Is there any odour?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

You’re not limited to white: clear, white and colours chosen to suit the room. We can help you pick when we quote.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before work begins. The work normally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. For a place like Gourock, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
