Bathroom resealing in Midton

Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. We reseal them with a kitchen-suitable silicone, matched to the worktop where it’s on show. Common call-outs are for water getting behind the bath panel and two layers of silicone, both failing, across kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop.

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, and our work is on the visible joints only.

What affects the quote in Midton

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether the work is at height

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will talk you through it.

What to tell us for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • The type of property
  • Roughly how big the job is

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Midton: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords with property near Gourock station?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Do you cover Midton for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Midton is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Is white the only colour available?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We’re fully insured.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Just list everything you need and we will quote it together.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

What we do, step by step

There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers in most cases. Around Midton, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Bathroom resealing in Midton: local notes

Midton is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Gourock High School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Gourock station change hands often, and a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. Homes close to St Bartholomew's Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Midton

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can be quoted together.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

What sealant work can’t fix

We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

What we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

Should I try it myself first?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Why deal with it now?

Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. In an older home around Midton, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
