About bathroom resealing in PA15
A bead that has gone black, split or come away is worth sorting before it lets water through. A photo of the joints helps when you drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and we’ll give you a clear price before any work starts. We are often asked to deal with gaps between the worktop and the wall and black spots spreading through the bead, on baths, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.
Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.
How we quote
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.
Why choose Mr Mastic
- Old sealant always removed completely
- Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- A choice of colours where the product allows
How to get a quote
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.
Landmarks near Cartsdyke
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Watt Library, Wellington Academy and St Laurence’s Church (Greenock) and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Cartsdyke itself: Whinhill station. Well-known places in the area include Greenock Royal Infirmary (1 mile west) and Oak Mall (0.9 miles north-west). For a walk, there’s Lyle Hill.
Where we work in PA15
Homes across PA15 range from older properties to new builds, and in places like Greenock, Port Glasgow and Cartsdyke there’s plenty of rented property too. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.
Scottish weather is hard on outside joints, especially in the wetter west, while generally soft water means less limescale indoors but no less mould. That shapes the choice of sealant for jobs across PA15. Coastal guest houses and holiday lets in PA15 can see heavy use in busy months, which is hard on sealant and grout.
Cartsdyke: Homes close to St Laurence’s Church (Greenock) include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wellington Academy, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
There’s no set price list. What we look at:
- When we can work, for business premises
- The type of sealant required
- The number of rooms or windows
- The size of the job
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
Asking for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- How we’d reach the joints
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Where the job is, and your postcode
If you are in PA15 and need bathroom resealing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you’ll get a clear quote before any work starts.
How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Cracked grout in a corner can be cut out and replaced with silicone.
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so we fill it with water before sealing. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and is not stretched when it’s used.
Looking after it afterwards
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Do not let bottles sit on the bead
- Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans away from the silicone. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
Small signs come before a leak: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.
When it isn’t the sealant
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
- A tray or bath that’s cracked through

Questions from PA15
How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?
A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it peels away and hides mould and water. We always take the old sealant out completely.
What do you put in the joint?
We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will tell you what we’re using.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.
Does the resealing come with a guarantee?
Yes, for 12 months. Good ventilation and gentle cleaning help it last.
Do you come to PA15?
We do. Our applicators work in PA15, and the service is the same as everywhere else.
How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in PA15?
We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You’ll get a clear quote before we start.
