Need regrouting in London?

Signs you need regrouting in London

Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble and showers that get daily use suffer most.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room

If you let a flat or house near Elephant & Castle station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • How long to leave it before use
  • How much experience the applicator has

Our hiring checklist

Regrouting in London, done properly

Across London, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on bathroom floors, wet rooms and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about crumbling grout between the tiles and floor grout that won’t come clean.

Alongside its houses and flats, London has offices, shops and places to stay, and their washrooms and staff kitchens need the same attention as any home. The work is the same in both: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in London and everywhere else we cover.

Quotes for regrouting in London

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • Access and height
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Which sealant suits the joint

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Where the property is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that is easy.

Why it’s worth doing now in London

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, which turns a regrout into a retile. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Busy buildings in London, from hotels to offices, can’t afford rooms out of use for leaks or mould, so failing joints are best replaced on a planned basis.

Combining jobs into one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

Surface by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Stained grout is best replaced.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so sound grout really matters. We check the tiles first.

London questions

I let a flat near Elephant & Castle station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Can you do regrouting in London?

Yes, London is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing.

Is it worth trying it myself?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Do you grout the corners?

Flexible sealant. Grout belongs between the tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Do the sealants smell?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

How long should I wait before showering?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We’ll give you a time to follow when the job is done.

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

Regrouting in London: local notes

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. London has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Charles Dickens Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. In the older streets around St George the Martyr, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What we do, step by step

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can carry on as normal. The job normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Jobs in a place the size of London range from town-centre flats to offices and family homes. Whichever it is, tell us how to get in, where to park and where the work is.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
