Regrouting for Fogwatt homes and businesses

About our regrouting in Fogwatt

Across Fogwatt, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, finished with new silicone at the edges. We work on bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are a grout colour that no longer suits the room and shower grout that has worn away.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What regrouting looks like in Fogwatt

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

In and around Fogwatt, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Fogwatt is about 4 miles south of Elgin, in Moray. Fogwatt gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Our area takes in 58 places across Moray, large and small. There’s also a page for Aberdeen, roughly 53 miles from Fogwatt.

All of IV30 is covered for regrouting. You will find streets such as Bracany Gardens and Bracany Park. We also cover Longmorn (1 mile north), Thomshill (1 mile west), Hallowood (2 miles north), Ashgrove (3 miles north) and Blackhills (3 miles north-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Buckie (13 miles north-east), Forres (13 miles west), Lossiemouth (8 miles north), Keith (13 miles east), Burghead (10 miles north-west) and Fochabers (7 miles east). For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

Fogwatt questions

I let a flat near Elgin station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Can you do regrouting in Fogwatt?

Yes, Fogwatt is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Do I need to be at home?

We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that usually means someone at home.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Fogwatt and the rest of Moray, along with the rest of our area.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Yes, in most cases. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and could still leak.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes, regularly. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.

Do you need regrouting in Fogwatt?

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Old grout in a dated colour

For landlords with property near Elgin station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Why act early in Fogwatt

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but patched grout rarely matches the rest, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first.

How the visit works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can carry on as normal. The job usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Outdoor work around Fogwatt depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
