About bathroom resealing in G58
The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through into walls, panels and floors. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are water getting behind the bath panel and gaps between the worktop and the wall.
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. It normally takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

- The size of the job
- The product the joint needs

Keeping the joints in good condition
Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:
- Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.
Different surfaces, different methods
Wet rooms
In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, and our work is on the visible joints only.
Sinks & splashbacks
Water getting under the rim of an inset sink can soak the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.
Why deal with it now?
Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is usually all it takes, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If we find a deeper problem, you’ll hear it from us.

G58: your questions answered
Do the sealants smell?
Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
What do you put in the joint?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice.
How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?
Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Using it sooner can damage the bead.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes, often. We can quote for several properties at once.
